Our mission is to develop and manage BallroomArts to provide a distinctive project space with excellent facilities for year round exhibitions by art dealers and gallerists, established and emerging artists, and memorable events.
Since opening in September 2021, BallroomArts has rapidly proved to be a successful venture for both exhibitors and visitors alike and our programing for 2022 includes a wide range of solo and goup shows. History of BallroomArts
BallroomArts takes its name from its previous life as a function room in the East Suffolk Hotel, an important historic commercial building on Aldeburgh’s High Street. The building dates from the early 19th century but was much altered in the 20th century. The 1904 Woodbridge licensing records show that the East Suffolk Hotel’s license was issued in 1843. However, records show that Charles II stayed there in 1668.
Previously owned by Snape Maltings/Britten Pears Arts for many years, The Ballroom was called the Peter Pears Gallery, in honour of the internationally acclaimed tenor and partner of Benjamin Britten, and the Courtyard Gallery was known as the Garage Gallery.
The building is linked by an archway to 152 High Street, now owned and operated by The Suffolk.
BallroomArts sits within the Aldeburgh Conservation Area and the Suffolk Coasts & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
